The Angel of the Apocalypse

The Angel of the Apocalypse is a large scale steel and wood sculpture made by San Francisco art group The Flaming Lotus Girls. I did the structural design of the 16 stainless clad feathers which make up the wings of this phoenix figure. This process started with the development of the geometry in CAD, followed by the construction of two jigs. Five uniform shapes and sizes of feather were designed based on two platforms, so that multiple sizes could be built on each jig. Sheet metal modeling in CAD produced the "unpeeled" flat outlines of the sheet metal parts for easy cutting.
