Jaw in Dust Storm

The Serpent Mother

The Serpent Mother is a large scale steel sculpture built by San Francisco art group The Flaming Lotus Girls. For this project, I designed a 5 degree of freedom hydraulic system to actuate the head and neck, from first principles through detail design through fabrication and installation. I also performed the detail design of the structural spine, including all CAD and knowledge transfer to the fabrication team, with structural engineering support from civil engineers at Endresware and Degenkolb.
